Litigation funders Virage Capital Management and TRGP Capital invested in hundreds of claims that were brought against Johnson & Johnson (J&J) regarding talc products, in exchange for a portion of any profits. J&J has now offered an offer of $8.9 billion to settle all lawsuits.

The funders’ involvement is public information because of the New Jersey court rule requiring the disclosure of certain information regarding outside funding backers.
